As Covid-19 infections and hospitalizations are rising again, resulting in a new wave of disruptions and cancellations during this pandemic holiday season, Dr. Fauci, the top medical advisor, answered that the redefinition of fully vaccinated is “on the table,” responding to CNBC.
According to the CDC, fully vaccinated definition means either two weeks after their second dose of a Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine or two weeks after a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Earlier this week, Pfizer said 3 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine neutralize the Omicron variant.
Dr. Fauci said, “Whether or not the CDC is going to change that, it certainly is on the table and open for discussion. I’m not sure exactly when that will happen. But I think people should not lose sight of the message that there’s no doubt if you want to be optimally protected, you should get your booster.”
Dr. Fauci also noted, “The cases are going up,” in his interview with CNN on wednesday. He further added, “We have an average of about 117,000 cases. We have an increase the percentage of hospitalizations. Deaths are still over a thousand. Then you have, looking over your shoulder, the Omicron variant, which we know, from what’s going on in South Africa and in the UK, is a highly transmissible virus.“
