Sharing iPad/iPhone on Zoom

If you are an educator — teacher, instructor or professor — sharing iPad especially with the slick Apple Pencil (Gen. 1 o Gen. 2) writing on zoom at times becomes essential. There are two ways share your iPad (and iPhone) on Zoom. Unfortunately, android users are out of luck.

Method 1: Connecting via cable.

This method works if you have a Mac. If you don’t have mac, skip this Method.

  1. Connect your iPad (or iPhone) to your Mac via cable
  2. After launching Zoom as a host or co-host (or a panelist in webinar), click on the “Share” green button on the bottom panel.
  3. You should see connecting iPad via Cable. choose this option and voila. You should be able to see the iPad on zoom.
  4. Tips and troubleshooting: A. Make sure your iPad is unlocked. B. Sometimes if it doesn’t work, disconnect and connect the cable again. C. Sometimes you may be asked to install a plugin.

Method 2: Connecting wirelessly (via network).

This method works both on PC and Mac.

  1. Connect your iPad (or iPhone) to the same network (from a same router if you have multiple routers)
  2. After launching Zoom as a host or co-host (or a panelist in webinar), click on the “Share” green button on the bottom panel.
  3. You should see connecting via AirPlay. Choose this option and voila. Often zoom asks permission to install a small plugin, it usually takes 10-15 secs to install. Once that that is completed, you will see a screen that asks you to screen share your iPad.
  4. Go to your iPad and click on Mirror Screen, you will see a network with the name <pcname>-Zoom, click to mirror on your iPad. In few seconds, you should be able to see the iPad/iPhone on zoom.
  5. Tips and troubleshooting: A. Make sure your iPad is unlocked. B. Sometimes if it doesn’t work, disconnect and connect to the network.
