Financial Times follows Times in naming Elon Musk “Person of the Year”

The British newspaper Financial Times (FT) named Elon Musk “Person of the Year,” praising the world’s richest man’s role in transforming the automotive industry to an all-electric future. Times magazine named him the “Person of the year,” earlier this week.

The title of person of the year is usually reserved for world leaders but occasionally awarded to businesspeople. Previous winners of the FT’s award include Angela Merkel, and Donald Trump.

Musk’s current networth is about $300 billion dollars and earlier this year surpassed Jeff Bezos to become the world’s richest man. His EV company hit $1 trillion market cap in October, although recently TSLA lost more than 20% from it’s peak market cap.

FT noted “Even if Tesla were somehow to collapse next year… Musk would have transformed one of the world’s most important industries in ways that could have profound implications for governments, investors – and for the climate.”
